Andrew College - Warren Bush Renovation

Our architecture team was engaged by Andrew College to develop two projects on the Cuthbert, Georgia campus, both requiring assistance with receiving a USDA Rural Development loan.  One project included demolition of a dormitory to make way for construction of new student housing, and the other was the renovation of Warren Bush Hall. Warren Bush was constructed in 1900, and all three stories were adapted to house the new Nursing Program and associated sim lab, classroom and faculty spaces.  A life safety review determined that access could be created to the adjacent 5 story Old Main and use their existing enclosed fire stairs for egress saving the college thousands in construction costs and saving valuable square footage in the historic structure.  An additional exterior staircase and new elevator tower/entrance was created on the courtyard side facing the campus.  In addition to the Nursing Program, the interior was remodeled to accommodate a student gathering space for 24/7 use by the college for computer work, printing reports, collaborating or just hanging out.  The historic open staircase and main corridors within the Hall are refurbished and all architecturally significant elements are preserved while adapting other spaces for state of the art, collaborative 21st Century learning centers.
